The key to the 710 Twin-Finity’s sonic flexibility lies in its innovative circuit design, featuring a solid-state trans-impedance input amp simultaneously driving separate, phase-aligned tube and solid-state gain stages, which are then summed to a single output. UNIVERSAL AUDIO TWIN FINITY PLUS
The 710 Twin-Finity’s ability to blend tube and solid-state tone is continually variable between 100% tube and 100% solid-state, offering a practically infinite range of unique preamp tones, plus the ability to easily dial-in your own signature sound. It combines both the classic retro warmth of tubes with the transient bite of solid-state circuitry. The award-winning 710 Twin-Finity is a testament to UA innovation. However, UA also proved itself to be a company of innovation, some of which have spanned decades and have yet to be replaced. The Universal Audio 710 Twin-Finity™ is a radical departure from Universal Audio’s classic preamp designs, which many come to expect of UA. When used as a clean preamp only it is very good, so he got himself a good piece for a pleasant price. The Universal Audio 710 Twin-Finity is a hybrid mic preamp/DI that combines solid state and tube gain stages and the ability to variably blend the two, from fully solid state or tube and anything in between-includes a 19" rack-kit for mounting one or two units. The guy who bought it from me was very happy with it though, as I asked half the price of a new one and it was in a pristine state, as I had hardly used it. There are better options in this field from makes at similar costs per channel. the self noise of the 710 was not as low as I would like (for classical and acoustic recordings). From a tube preamp you would expect the opposite. when pushed into distortion it would start to sound harsh and raspy, not nicely adding warm harmonics. the solid state side of the 710 is very clean (a good thing in my opinion), but the tube side is also very clean, to a point that I could hardly hear the difference on many sources.

The 710 does not have any special character. I have many preamps, so it wasn't really an interesting addition. it is a good preamp for a beginner, with no other outboard preamps. There are a few reasons that made me do so: After trying to get some use out of the 710 Twin-Finity for some time I decided to sell it.
